About The Elgin

Placing guests within a ten-minute drive of Dunfermline, The Elgin is a country house hotel where facilities include landscaped gardens and a children’s play park. The hotel overlooks the Firth of Forth, the Forth Bridges and the Pentland Hills.

Good location

Most previous guests have appreciated the location of the Elgin, with the surrounding views a highlight for many. Guests also mention the quick drive into Dunfermline, as well as how easy it is to visit the likes of Edinburgh and Stirling.

Friendly staff

Although guests occasionally find the management here difficult to get along with, most rate the service from staff highly, frequently finding them friendly and helpful during their stay.

Excellent for functions

There is little doubting the popularity of this hotel for weddings and private functions. Feedback in this area is good, with the majority of guests who attended an event finding it was well organised and run to plan.

Mixed feedback about rooms

Feedback about the quality of the rooms is a little mixed. While some guests were happy enough, others raise concerns. Guests find the rooms are small, dated and, in some cases, cold. They also mention uncomfortable beds and poor Wi-Fi.

Some dining disappointments

Dining is another area where feedback varies. It would be unfair to say that everyone had a bad meal here but they do crop up occasionally. Guests report issues such as slow service between courses, a dreary dining area and poor quality food.

Functions can disturb

Although private functions seem to run smoothly here, regular guests do report that the noise can go on until the early hours of the morning. Not all rooms will be affected but some guests mention that their room was in earshot of the function.
