About Indira Gandhi International Airport

Indira Gandhi International Airport serves the Indian capital city of New Delhi and is India's busiest airport and the primary hub airport for the country. IGIA is named after India's most famous former Prime Minister and is located approximately 19 km from the centre of New Delhi.

Indira Gandhi airport has two terminals and serves more than 60 national and international airlines including most of the major European long-haul operators. Terminal One is the domestic terminal and is located nearby. Terminal Two currently handles all International flight traffic and there is an additional Hajj terminal which operates during the annual Muslim Hajj pilgrimage to Meccah. Terminals one and two together handle more than 20 million passengers each year.

A third terminal is currently (2009) being constructed to handle an additional 37 million passengers per year and is intended to open in time for the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Additional infrastructure investment is taking place to improve road and rail/metro links between the city and the airport. Travelers are advised to allow extra time for journeys to the airport during construction work.
