Positive Reviews

Incredibly welcoming and friendly.

Everyone is so nice here. Very helpful and obviously proud of the facilities at the inn. So they should be. The place is ultra clean with lots of quirky features-some of which appear to be authentic-even if that's not the case.

No complaints about the food.

The food is great. Very appetising and with generous portions. They also cater for vegetarians and the vegetarian curry is ‘knock out'! Special congratulations are reserved for a memorable breakfast. The perfect start to any day.

Plain sailing with this location.

They've got it made really, with easy access to all that Cowes has to offer and to the Isle of Wight generally.  Come what may, though, all visitors need to cross the Solent and the inn is particularly close to the Red funnel terminal for foot passengers.

Negative Reviews

Where the sun never sets … or so it seems

The intense streetlight from outside ensures that there is an impression of constant daylight. Blackout curtains would easily solve the problem.

Closing early isn't good for business.

They need to stick to their advertised food serving times, rather than closing early because nobody's there. If they get a reputation for closing when it suits them, business will suffer and customers will go elsewhere. There are plenty of alternatives  where service is guaranteed.

A few nautical niggles.

Beds might be OK if you've spent the last few days on the high seas in a hammock, but for landlubbers, beds are hard and uncomfortable. Not everywhere is shipshape. The breakfast area needs tightening up on the cleanliness front. Presumably, it's in the kitchen but there is a noisy extractor fan somewhere and it seems to be clattering away all night.
