About The Golden Pheasant

The Golden Pheasant, in the centre of Burford, dates back to the 1700s. This authentic pub and restaurant also provides en-suite bed and breakfast accommodation for visitors to the Cotswolds region.

Some rooms at the Golden Pheasant feature a 4 poster double bed. They all include colour television, Wi-Fi and beverage making facilities, plus towels that are changed on a daily basis.

The convivial and well stocked public bar, complete with oak beams, stone fireplaces and log fire, hosts occasional live entertainment.  It also sports several large screen televisions featuring major sporting events.  Free parking is available.

The restaurant serves breakfast, followed by lunch and dinner where chicken, steak, pasta and pizza dishes are the order of the day.  This is also a venue for locally arranged social events.

Blenheim Palace, Sudeley Castle, Cheltenham and numerous Cotswold villages, are within an easy car journey from the inn.

Positive Reviews

Convenient and authentic Cotswold base.

A number of the famous Cotswold Walks can be enjoyed from the hotel. It is very well situated in the centre of Burford, so shops, bars , pubs and restaurants are all within easy reach. Live music lovers only have to go across the street to the Mermaid to

Great food.

Breakfast is as good as you would expect in this part of the world, brilliant! There’s lots to choose from later and rather than get sniffy at the sight of pizza on the menu, try one. They make their own bases here so pizzas and other choices are spot on.

Nice hosts.

Management and staff can’t be faulted. They’ll take time out to explain the lay of the land and the best routes to take to places of interest. On departure day, they’ll hold luggage for you until you are ready to go.

Negative Reviews

The low-down on head banging.

Rooms are old, ceilings and beams are low; ergo tall folk will bang their heads and get angry. Once you are in this bad mood, the problems of low water pressure for showers and heat building up in these compact rooms, all serve to fan the flames further.

Another parking mad feature.

Don’t be fooled by the prospect of free parking; it’s only a very small car park and nearly always full to capacity.

Eat your words over live music.

Live entertainment is good but the volume so high that you can’t hold a conversation. The real problem starts when folk decide they want to dance and start shoving tables together to create a space. It’s a small area anyway so eating, drinking and talking
