Positive Reviews

Charming, great ambience unlike city centre hotels

Guests at the Woodbrooke Birmingham describe the hotel as welcoming and charming, with friendly and helpful staff, very comfortable rooms and great public facilities The hotel is very tranquil and comfortable, yet affordable.

Excellent breakfast

Guests often congregate here for the Quaker conference and find that the wooded areas and the lake create a beautiful and tranquil setting The breakfast offered includes a wide choice of excellent fare, with cooked options as well as pastries, cheeses, cereals and juices.

Good location and great value for money

Close to the university, the hotel is also conveniently connected by public transport such as buses and the train It is one mile from the station and five miles or a ten minute bus ride from the city centre The main building, which was the home of famous chocolatier and Quaker, George Cadbury is of historic significance and is one of the attractions of the hotel The Woodbooke is more of a bed & breakfast option rather than a full service hotel, but is affordable and great value for money.

Negative Reviews

Noisy plumbing

Noisy plumbing has been the complaint of more than Guests This is due to the macerators fitted in some of the rooms to convert them into en suite rooms.

Variable meals

Though the breakfast has received almost unanimously positive reviews, the other meals (which have to be ordered in advance) have been described as variable While vegetarians have more options, the alternatives for non-vegetarians are somewhat limited.

Limited service

The hotel bases itself along principles of sustainability, and as such services such as room cleaning and change of linen is offered only once during Guestss’ stay unless specifically requested by the guest The welcome committee is largely volunteer based, which some guests have been less than pleased with.
