Positive Reviews

Excellent location

The setting of the Devonshire Arms holds great appeal for guests. Its location on the Chatsworth Estate certainly places a good choice of country walks on your doorstep. Plus, guests found the location convenient to use as a base from which to explore other areas of the national park and the towns along the border.

Comfortable rooms

The majority of previous guests were impressed by the standard of the rooms. Whether allocated a room in the main building or in one of the separate locations, guests generally find the accommodation is clean and comfortable, as well as being decorated and furnished to a high standard.

Staff is friendly

Guests tend to find the staff at the Devonshire Arms is friendly and welcoming. There do appear to be some issues relating to short staffing at times but that doesn't stop the staff that is on duty treating guests and visitors well.

Negative Reviews

Mixed feedback for food

Although guests tend to rate the breakfast highly, feedback about the rest of the meals is mixed. Some guests found their meal unappetising while others note that the cost of dishes is high. Several guests also encountered slow service and small portions.

Occasional plumbing problems

A number of guests report that they had no water on at least one night of their stay. Others say the water was only warm for less than a minute at a time. This makes for a fairly disappointing shower.

Some parking concerns

Several reviews suggest that you may find parking a little frustrating here. Those guests who stayed in a separate cottage mention that the bridge to access the parking is very narrow while the guests who stayed in the main building were not allowed to park near the property and had to carry luggage a fair distance.
