Positive Reviews

A great central location.

Mercure Whatley Hall is centrally located and within walking distance of many popular sights like Banbury Museum. Just outside your door you’ll find dozens of eclectic shops, wonderful restaurants and cafes and lots of nightly entertainments. The Banbury train station is only 300m from the hotel and you can easily spend a day exploring the Cotswolds and Oxford which are accessible by car.

The staff is great.

A friendly, multilingual staff welcomes you at check-in and is there for you during the duration of your stay. They are happy to accommodate most any request and point you in the direction of local sights and eateries. And while you’re there, be sure to ask them to regale you with the history of the hotel and Jonathan Swift’s writing of Gulliver’s Travels, while he was staying here in 1723.

Pets are welcome.

It’s wonderful that pets are allowed at this hotel, especially if you like to travel with your favourite canine companion. Your dog will love it too, because there are so many great walks to be had nearby. There is a fee for this amenity.

Negative Reviews

The hotel is mid-facelift.

While some of the guest rooms at Mercure Whatley Hall have recently undergone renovations, many have not. So be sure to ask for a recently renovated room when you check in so you can get the best accommodations that this hotel has to offer.

Things can get noisy.

If you are looking for a quiet stay, be sure to book a room at the rear of the property. The front of the hotel is subject to traffic noise from the road and exuberant voices of those enjoying late night excursions in town. This is especially true on weekends and during peak season.

Things can get hot.

Although the public spaces in this hotel are air conditioned, the guest rooms are not, which can make for a dreadful night’s sleep. When the weather gets warm, so do the guest rooms and there’s really no way to cool them down.
