Positive Reviews

A Stunning Highland Location.

With a location sitting at the foot of dramatic Glencoe, and along the edge of stunning Loch Linnhe, guests of Ballachullish Hotel felt treated to a true highland experience. They enjoyed the many bedrooms and lounge/restaurant areas offering panoramic views over the Loch. Magical sunsets seen setting over the hills of Glencoe were also mentioned.

Lots of Places to Lounge About.

At the end of a busy day of outdoor activity or local touring, guests appreciated retiring to their hotel, offering plenty of comfortable lounge space for a relaxing evening. Guests mentioned having a good choice of comfy sofas and armchairs to choose from to sit and read a book, or to sip on a good ale or Scotch whiskey from the bar.

Wonderful Friendly Staff.

Several guests were impressed with the accommodating Ballachulish staff, who were often described as warm and friendly, helping to make visitors feel extra welcome. Any issues that came up were dealt with promptly.

Negative Reviews

Hotel Needs Updating.

Many guests felt it was time for this hotel to dust itself off and perk up the dated decor. Although many visitors enjoyed the charm of the hotel's historic building, they felt the indoor decor to be more a reflection of a rather tired and depressing 60's and 70's type styling.

Bedrooms Fall Way Below Expectations.

Several guests felt the dated decor extended into the bedrooms, which also seemed to be in need of general maintenance and refurbishing. Guests complained of ancient lumpy beds through which coils could be felt, wall paper peeling away, paper thin walls through which every neighbour noise could be heard, and holes in duvet covers.

The Hiking Continues Indoors.

With no lift available, some guests staying on the hotel's upper floors were irritated by the tiring trek up endless sets of stairs to their rooms, especially after a long day of touring. Late at night, the incredible creaking and groaning of these ancient stairs also had the tendency of waking other guests.
