Positive Reviews

Fascinating bores!

Most people can be excused if they’ve never heard of Arnside, but it’s a perfect base from which to enjoy the Lake District itself With a little promenade, views over the river and Morecambe Bay and that fascinating bore - it’s a wave- sweeping up the river at high tide; this friendly place has much to offer. Much of the appeal, including the bore, can be seen from Ye Olde Fighting Cocks.

Convivial food and drink

The advantage of staying in a friendly public house is that you not only meet the locals, but sample some great local brews. The well stocked bar features three cask ales as well as draught lagers, wines and spirits. Many expensive, city centre, hotels, can’t claim to do the same!

Friendly staff and owners

A short break in the Lake District isn’t really long enough, but the people here, including the locals, are keen to offer advice on how best to occupy your limited time.

Negative Reviews

Small, cold rooms

There’s very little floor and storage space and whilst perspiring cyclists and hikers might welcome the cooling effect in the rooms, this appeal is lost on many guests.

Overpriced restaurant

It is a welcome additional facility for B+B guests; that’s the theory. In practice, what is on offer is OK, but not at these prices.

Spasmodic room cleaning

Old mattresses and not very thorough room cleaning, are negatives in a largely positive stay.
