Positive Reviews

So close and yet so far.

Located just 25 miles off the M6, you will feel like you’ve travelled hundreds of miles to get here. Quiet serenity, great views and marvelous walks are yours for the asking when you stay in this picturesque hotel.

Activities for the entire family.

A host of great activities can be had at Brathay Hall including canoeing, wall-climbing, kayaking and caving. And the walking and hiking here just can’t be beat.

Superb staff.

The warm, welcoming staff is happy to help you with any request. Well-appointed and professional, they’ll do everything they can to make your stay a memorable one.

Negative Reviews

No restaurant on-site.

Brathay Hall has a small cafe/bar which serves breakfast only so you have to go a bit far-afield for the rest of your meals. On the bright side, Ambleside is a short drive away and you’ll find lots of eateries and pubs to choose from there.

Late check-in can make you feel rushed.

Because check-in is at 5:00 pm and check-out is at 10:00 am, you might feel rushed, especially if you are only staying for one night.

Some guest rooms have seen better days.

If you are assigned a room at the back of the hotel in one of the older buildings, be prepared for worn-out, dated decor. But if the room isn’t to your liking, the management will be happy to switch you to a different one.
