[Helencbradshaw, 12/01/2008] There were many highlights of my recent California tour, but I think I am like many people in that these tall trees have a particular fascination. The Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias is towards the South entry to Yosemite National Park (highway 41) and situated fairly close to the Historic Wawona Hotel. (approximately 6 miles away)
There are three areas of Giant Sequoias within the Yosemite National Park area, but it is the Mariposa grove which is most visited. There are some famous trees here, and there are more than five hundred trees in the grove.

[toombsey, 12/05/2007] The whole experience of Yosemite is awesome. There is Mariposa Grove for the giant trees, Glacier Point for views to die for, The Valley for more views and a bit of culture, an sightseeing beyond your wildest dreams.

This has to be the most breathtaking place I have ever been to. It is truly awesome. You are left speechless by its sheer beauty and size. I could go on forever about the snow-capped mountains, the spectacular waterfalls cascading thousands of feet down the cliffs, the view of the Yosemite valley floor and the river winding its way around it. [toombsey, 12/05/2007] Maripose Grove is located to the south of Yosemite national Park, but a an attraction within itself with it own entrance fee etc.
The grove contains some of the biggest, tallest and oldest trees in the world. The giant sequoia trees have been around about 70 million years. To put this into perpective, dinosaurs (and many other varieties of living things) went extinct around 66 million years ago, but the giant sequoias survived.
