Holiday in April for 35 retired GSK workers

Travel date: April 2008
Adventure holiday
Half board
Short trip (2-3 days)
Group
I helped to organise the trip. Someone else had found the hotel and liked it very much. On arrival we were met by Caroline who smoothly took us into the lounge for a cup of tea while I gave her the numbers of singles, doubles and twin bedrooms. This was quickly done and everyone was pleased with the hotel and rooms. We were very near to the city centre yet the hotel was very peaceful and quiet. The food was ample and good. I have been away with our group on several occasions and this was the only occasion that we had not one single complaint. I was very pleased about this as I was an organiser! Caroline saw us off in our coach and wishes us all well. I also met the owner of the hotel, because I had done a watercolour from the cottage. She was very appreciative and I will send her the picture when it is complete.

    Cleanliness
  • We stayed in room 60 which is the cottage. It was very clear and fresh. The bed was very comfortable and the covers were warm. The heating was very adequate, in fact we did not have to use it all of the time. The garden outside was immaculate and well tended. The staff were very polite.

    Lobby Atmosphere
  • I managed to do a watercolour painting from the cottage after all of my sightseeing, so I felt very relaxed. It is a good place to unwind and has loads of atmosphere. The staff were very friendly, but some of the party thought that the evening waitress was a little bossy. I think that it was just her manner, because she was so efficient. We all had to sit down for our meals at the same time, which caused a little friction because some people wanted to go on the ghost walk and eat earlier, and some wanted to eat later.

    Food Quality
  • The food was generally very good. Some even said that there was too much! The portions were very large, but we were a bit regimented on when to eat and when to go and get our next course.

    Transportation Connection
  • You could not fault the hotel on any of these points. The location was excellent, just a short walk to the city centre. We used the local bus and were able to use our London Bus Pass as we are over sixty. There was so much going on in town, in all aspects. Super!
