[serendipity, 08/09/2011] The hotel was decent enough for an overnight stay and because of its location made it easy to access York. I found it more relaxing than staying in the city and it was certainly pleasant sitting in the grounds on a summer evening.
As mentioned the rooms are basic but the communal areas of the hotel are well tended and the furnishings of much better quality and style. The service is good and the food tasty and well presented.
