The Matenadaran, or Institute of Ancient Manuscripts, holds what is considered to be the world's largest collection of manuscripts. The library holds over 16,000 manuscripts, dating back to the 5th century and over 100,000 documents from the 14th to the 19th centuries. Among the oldest exhibits are fragments dating back to the 5th and 6th centuries, and a gospel from the 10th century. The Matenadaran is located at the top of Mashtots Avenue in central Yerevan, easily accessible from the city centre. |
