[1krispy1, 28.03.2007] In July of 2002 wvabackpacker visited Yellowstone National Park. The focus of his review was a hike to Heart Lake. The overall rating that wvabackpacker gave was five stars.

The lower rating for accessibility is due to what he calls getting to the lake is "some work" in that the lake requires some hiking to get to. It is not one that can be driven right to. This particular lake is "untouched by any machines of man". This lake is only accessible "by foot or horse".

He does note that most people will view Yellowstone National Park via "RV". These sights are "all worth viewing".

The lake is about a 12 km hike one way. He also warns this hike is through "heavy grizzly territory". A large and potentially dangerous bear found in Yellowstone National Park. The way to the lake was filled with a variety of sights starting with an area of "thermal features". Smelling of sulfur and rocks colored with reds and browns. A short distance way is another thermal feature that was "bubbling blue".

During the hike many creatures were seen "we saw two bears" which proved to be some ways off and no threat. It was recommended that a long lens "at least 300 mm" be used to capture some images with a minimal amount of danger to the photographer. They also found elk, deer and "tons of birds". There were also fish visible "in several of the streams".

After noting the high marks for his visit wvabackpacker says "I suggest visiting Heart Lake". He calls it "the perfect place" to get away from it all and "get in touch with wildlife". There is "no artificial light" and the view "you can't get anywhere else". Also missing was "noise pollution".
