Exploring Windsor Castle

Article
[pierrejacques, 03.11.2006] Even from a distance, the "towers form a skyline in itself" and the author bemoans the fact that "most of the grounds" are inaccessible to the public. Faced with a "long" queue, he finally gained access to the "well kept gardens" and set off to discover why a crowd had gathered "right next to the Chapel". The "changing of the guards" was taking place with traditional pomp and ceremony, whereafter he visited the St. George Chapel where ten monarchs are buried. The author points out that Windsor Castle is the "largest inhabited castle" worldwide as well as the "oldest" in terms of "continuous occupation". Though the facade is "quite simple", an enormous wealth of art by "famous artists like Rubens and Van Dyck" were displayed in the "enormous" halls which are "richly decorated".
