[Newfloridian, 02.12.2006] The author wrote of his visit to the "old-worldly English kitsch" Millers Howe Hotel, a " fashionable boutique hotel"in the Lake District, in his article published in The Guardian in 2001. Indoors he found three lounges decorated with an "appealing hotchpotch" of collectibles, while the leather armchairs and "intimate" window seats create a "calm zone" for guests. He noted that the staff were attentive while at the same time "giving guests space". Standing on the banks of Windermere, views from all around the hotel were "amazing". The en suite guestrooms were "cosy and sumptuous" and he was able to luxuriate in the "soporific splendour" of the big bed. He considered the award-winning restaurant "worth the trip in itself". Food and wine presented by the renowned chef were "delicious yet comforting". He noted the close proximity of the hotel to a wide variety of attractions and water sports.
