[David, 19.02.2008] The author informs that most of the guests of this hotel are "International".
The owner of the hotel - the "former actor John Tovey", "treats" the guests "as if they had been invited to a house party".
The house was built in 1916 in the Edwardian style, sitting on 2.2 hectares (5 1/2 acres) of statue-dotted garden and parkland
The hotel "overlooks Lake Windermere" as well "the Langdale Pikes".
The rooms, according to the author, are "stylish" and "large". They are "graciously furnished" and are "supplied with binoculars" which let the guests "fully enjoy the view".
The rooms also have "CD players and umbrellas".
The beds are described as "sumptuous, often canopy-draped" and "each with colorful spreads and padded headboards".
The author informs that the bathrooms "have generous shelf space" and have "combination tub and shower" as well some have jacuzzi and "even copies of Punch from the 1890s".
According to the author the food served in the hotel is "exquisite".
Frommers rates the hotel as Very highly recommended.
