George Dunford puts this hostel in his "top 5 pick", as for him it is the "the best hostel" in Orkney, so much so in fact that "it's worth the trip" to the island of Westray just to stay there. The privacy of guest in the dormitories is assured by use of "hessian curtains" and space is provided for their "valuables", thereby ensuring that the level of comfort is not "below-decks" despite the "nautical theme" displayed throughout. This theme permeates the very fabric of the "ingeniously renovated" 1850s building with "flotsam" incorporated, in a "rustic" decor that doesn't become "gimmicky". With "less than 20 bunks", the atmosphere is fairly intimate as guests have the opportunity to "get to know each other". The views are made better by the presence of "thoughtfully provided binoculars", but there are other ways to amuse yourself, with "a small video collection" for instance or Internet access. The kitchen is "immaculate" and "modern". Overall, this hostel has a "low-key" atmosphere.
