[more]The current town hall building dates from 1877. It was designed by T.W Collcutt, the same architect that designed Bloomsbury Square in London and was constructed in the Gothic Revival style to compete with the town halls of Bradford and Leeds.
Today it is used by the local metropolitan council and is a Grade 1 listed building. It is open to the public for free tours on only a handful of days during the year e.g during Heritage Open Days.
