Article
[winodino, 22.11.2006] The author calls the Westin Bristol a "venerable" landmark with "one of the finest" locations in Vienna. It is situated on the Ring "next to the state opera house". Basically the interior's emphasis is on "tradition". On the other hand the lobby is "fairly and disappointingly standard-issue" concerning luxury. There are the "usual oval salons", "domed" ceilings and "traditional overstuffed chairs" as well as "modern wood paneling" and "potted palms". "Enough" chandeliers are combined with "many ugly recessed ceiling lights", which the author states is "too bad". "Real grandeur" can be experienced in the top penthouses and suites, which are "gloriously" equipped with Biedermeier furniture and "decorative" fireplaces as well as "thick" carpets, "wing-back" chairs, "crystal" chandeliers and lace curtains. From the terraces you have a "staggering" view of the Opera. The other rooms "miss out" on this "splendor", but they are "most comfortable" and nevertheless "stylish". The special rates sometimes offered by the hotel are "great value". In the Hotel there is the "acclaimed" Korso restaurant and the "convival" Café Sirk. In the music salon the pianist "lulls" the "after-theater crowd" with tunes on a "time-burnished" Bösendorfer piano.
