    Hotel Daku Resort Savusavu
So you don’t want to spend thousands of dollars on accommodation, but you don’t want a twelve bed backpacker party dorm either? Then Daku is for you.In Fiji we’re a one-of-a-kind “upscale budget” resort – with accommodation ranging from FJ$95 to $225 – in a coconut plantation by the sea. We’re small, low-key, and casual. You can have your own traditional style ocean view bure with its own deck, set in our tropical garden. The owner is a former guest and an original backpacker who visited over 70 countries before finding paradise here in Savusavu. Over the last couple of years the resort has been refurbished and refitted – but has lost none of its intimacy. You’ll still find ceiling fans and ocean breezes rather than air con, and you’ll still be able to turn up to dinner in a sulu. At Daku, the staff is small, the smiles are large and our guests are welcomed like old friends of the family. All our accommodation is set in the beautiful tropical gardens of Daku. There’s a swimming pool in the centre of the resort, which is a central focus of activity. Beside the pool is the ‘big bure’ (bure is Fijian for ‘house’) which contains our bar; dining area and kitchens (have a look at the Eat page for details of our food choices). You can walk down to the beach just over the road at the end of the drive. Like most of the beaches on the island, it is tidal so it has a wide sweep of sand at low tide and only a thin strip of beach at high tide. There’s a deep water channel leading safely out through the reef so you can swim at any time, and there’s a pontoon to lie and sun bake or rest on after you’ve snorkeled. It’s a small reef, ideal for beginners or swimmers who are not very confident – whilst still being very enjoyable for people who are more experienced. And we can take you out to the reef on our boat for some stunning snorkeling.Food from Our Kitchen (meals are not included in the price)Choose between a Tropical breakfast or a cooked breakfast. The tropical breakfast has a choice of cereals with fresh fruits, hot toast, tea or coffee. For the cooked breakfast, you can order any of the following: French toast, porridge, bacon and eggs, pike lets sausage and eggs. We've got grilled sandwiches, salads, fish and chips, pies, sausage rolls, salad, steak & onions, and omelets from FJ$5.00 - $12.00. A light menu is available all day. Our dinner menu offers an array of Indian, Fijian, Chinese or European dishes. If you order by 3.00pm, you can choose from a number of Indian curries, Chinese chop suey and chow mien dishes, vegetarian dishes, Fijian food cooked in coconut cream, or European grilled meats, fish or chicken. FJ$14 - $25. We also put on regular special dinners - Indian curry nights, Chinese nights and Sunday evening BBQs. We can cater to vegetarian or gluten-free diets too. Activities are available of course, but you are free to do nothing. Doing nothing is a popular non-activity here. Hang out at the pool, write your novel in the lounge, and walk into town for dinner at the yacht club. Lie on your bed and read books. No Pressure. No Schedules. No Club Med.Having said that, there are plenty things to do – snorkeling, hiking, kayaking, boat rides. You can play tennis and golf at local resorts, and go diving with our world-class local dive operations. And for those of you who like to have a holiday with a focus, we offer a number of special interest courses in areas like writing, painting, singing, bird watching and quilting. They are 6-day residential courses taught by experts in their field who come from Australia and the US. The snorkeling in Savusavu Bay is excellent: there’s a small reef directly outside the resort; there’s a funny old shipwreck 400 meters away and 5 km down the road, there’s the outstanding site of Split Rock. We can also take you out on our boat to a couple of sites further away near the outer reef. Bring a snorkel and mask or hire one of ours. We have 3 kayaks – a double and two singles – which you can hire; a couple of bikes, and a boat which you can use for fishing, snorkeling or waterskiing. For serious fishermen, there are deep-sea fishing charters available in Savusavu Harbor. If you enjoy hiking, there are a couple of tracks behind the resort, which go up into the jungle, or we can arrange a trip with Naveria Heights Adventure Tours to go and swim at Vuandomo waterfall, trek to Thorolou hamlet or walk over the ridge behind Natewa Bay. We can arrange for you to go and use the 9-hole golf course nearby – but watch out for the frogs on the greens!Diving: We can book you with Rock ‘n’ Down under in Savusavu Bay, with Koro Sun Dive or with the Jean Michel Cousteau divers who go to the internationally known dive site of Namena Island. Snorkeling around the reef (bring a mask and snorkel – or we can hire out)Volleyball in our sand court - tournaments on Sundays!Mountain Bike: see local sights or get a serious workout.Fish: go out on our boat or take a charter and grill your catch that night.Hike to villages, or waterfalls deep in the bush.Play golf or tennis at a resort nearby.
