Boettcher Concert Hall - Denver, United States of America
My view of the Boettcher Concert Hall (01.03.2007 04:04)
First of all the performing artists present their shows in the round. Boettcher Concert Hall was the first so designed hall in the United States. The way the seating is constructed puts the audience right in the thick of the action. Most of the seats (80%) are within 65 feet of the stage. Almost close enough the listener can tell what color the musician's eyes are (well maybe not quite). No seat [more...] -
Downtown Aquarium - Denver, United States of America
An afternoon with the fishes (25.02.2007 20:32)
I spent an afternoon with the fishes at the Downtown Aquarium in Denver recently. The Downtown Aquarium is a fairly large aquarium at a million gallons. It was fairly expensive entry fee and there is a charge for parking. The attraction is laid out in a manner that the visitor it taken down a path or walkway in one direction to view each of the exhibits. Being these are fish we are looking at [more...] -
Denver Botanic Gardens - Denver, United States of America
A suprising visit to the Denver Botanical Gardens (25.02.2007 03:35)
I have been to the Denver Botanic Gardens on a number of occasions. However these were always around concerts that my son was involved in. I would listen then leave. This trip was different. I was on a mission. I knew the first thing I wanted to visit was the Tropical Conservatory. It was the Orchids and bromeliads that I want to photograph. It was very interesting. The building has a path [more...] -
Vintage Aero Flying Museum - Fort Lupton, United States of America
From the Movie to Reality (19.02.2007 00:38)
I recently purchased the DVD "Flyboys". This is a movie dedicated to the story of American men going off to France to learn to fly pursuit planes and fight for the French before the United States entered World War I. As with many DVD's there is an extras section. During one of these there was a man that came on doing an interview about the accuracy of the movie and other features. I noticed on [more...] -
Denver Museum of Nature and Science - Denver, United States of America
My day at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science (18.02.2007 20:05)
My son and I just enjoyed a day at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. This is a huge facility located in the northern part of the City of Denver. It was originally built in 1904. My favorite parts include a walk through the prehistoric times. It goes from the time when the earth was a primordial soup with very simple life forms. The visitors walk along a path on which the exhibited [more...] -
Rocky Mountain National Park - Estes Park, United States of America
Visiting Rocky Mountain National Park (18.02.2007 17:16)
Rocky Mountain National Park has been one of my favorite places to visit for the better part of my life. Living in Denver it is only about an hour's drive to the entrance of the park. The park provides a great opportunity to get about and enjoy the back country. I particularly enjoy hiking. Rocky Mountain National Park is one of the most visited areas in the State of Colorado; there are [more...] -
Florissant Fossil Beds National Mounument - Florissant, United States of America
A Walk Among the Greatest Trees (15.02.2007 05:06)
Contrary to what some have told others, the fossil records for the Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument are not from the Dinosaur Era. Rather from the later part of the Cenozoic Era, about the last 65 million years of that time frame. This was the time of the mammals. In this area at this period of time the beginnings of the horse started for example. One of the nastier brutes that I am aware [more...] -
Denver Zoo - Denver, United States of America
It Was Happening at the Zoo (11.02.2007 15:47)
After several weeks of true winter weather and years since my last visit I felt it was time to go to the Denver Zoo again. I did just that. The weather was fairly cool and some of the more tropical animals were not outside. That was a small manner in most cases as the majority of the more cold intolerant beasts were inside and viewable. This would include many of the primates and the giraffes [more...] -
Butterfly Pavilion - Westminster, United States of America
Butterflies Are Free (05.02.2007 02:25)
In this case the meaning of "Butterflies are free" means the butterflies are free to flutter about this tropical rainforest to their hearts content for the two weeks that they normally live. Typically insect lifecycles are about 28 days in length. In this case the residents get to live the last half of their life in paradise. Albeit an artificial one as this paradise is in the middle of the semi [more...] -
Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad - Durango, United States of America
A most scenic ride (01.02.2007 17:45)
I have had the adventure of riding the Durango to Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad on a number of occasions. It is a great adventure. It is simply amazing to me that this line is chiseled out of the rock face of the canyon. At times when sitting on the side of the car nearest the canyon it feels as if there is nothing between you the viewer and the raging river hundreds of feet below in the [more...]
