[26.01.2008] The Bobolink Trail is in the south east section of the city of Boulder, Colorado. As luck would have it I work in Boulder and frequently drive by the trail. It is a bit of the beaten path of Boulder but by no means challenging to find or use, just off the main drives that's all. In fact it is well used the first attempt to get in and do a hike was blocked as the parking lot was filled. On this day however it was open [more]

[17.11.2007] When my children were young there was a thought process that it would be a good thing to introduce them to the wonderful world of technology. One step in that process was the use of computer games. One of these games was called Oregon Trail. In the game one works their way from the gateway cites in the eastern United States to Oregon. One of the major points along the trail was Chimney Rock. I recently added Chimney [more]

[14.11.2007] After recently visiting Fort Garland in southern Colorado I wanted to learn more about the settling of the American West. One of the more famous routes taken in the greatest voluntary migrations in human history was the trails that pass near present day Scottsbluff Nebraska. At Scottsbluff there are several merging trails including the Oregon Trail, California Trail, Mormon Trail and the route of the Pony Express. Sc [more]

[04.11.2007] One of the things I have enjoyed about being on trivago is the fact that I have gone out and seen a lot more of the places I live by in order to bring them here. Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs is one of the places with an ironic twist. Most of my formative years I had relatives in the Springs and we would visit frequently, yet never in all that time did we venture to the Garden of the Gods. I thought it would [more]

[03.11.2007] On a recent trip to Monte Vista to photography migrating cranes I stopped off at Fort Garland to get a view of the old American West. The fort is just off US 160 the highway connecting Alamosa to La Veta pass and the towns of eastern Colorado. There was a small admission fee of $4 which allows the visitor to wander about the various exhibits. It was very much well worth the fee. The fort was set up in a paralle [more]

[30.10.2007] It is a long drive to get to Monte Vista from my home. Something on the order of 250 miles one way, however the journey is well worth the effort if you really enjoy seeing one of the most amazing spectacles in the avian migration world. Looking at the photographs I recently posted one could think what is so unique about this desolate desert. It is truly a high altitude desert getting only seven inches of precipita [more]

[26.10.2007] Many folks think of the east coast when talk of fall colors comes up. Here in the western United States we also have a very colorful changing of foliage in the fall, very underrated in my opinion by "the outside world". It is however a very big deal here. Early in September I thought I would take the long way to work to get in some aspen viewing. You see it is the aspen trees that are the star of this fall extrava [more]

[09.09.2007] Colorado is fortunate to have two zoos that are members of AZA (American Zoo Association). I have already done a review for the Denver Zoo and thought it may be good to visit Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs. Many visitors to Denver may not want to take the time to visit this zoo. My door to door mileage one way was 75 miles, but if visiting broader areas this is not a bad place to visit. In my case driving [more]

[02.09.2007] It is the Labor Day weekend, the first weekend in September and a perfect time to take a ride over the rooftop of Colorado. I packed up the car and headed out for the Trail Ridge Road Scenic Byway. This is U.S. Highway 34 going from Estes Park, Colorado to Grand Lake, Colorado. The road travel extensively through Rocky Mountain National Park and is the highest continuous paved highway in the United States. Its highes [more]

[28.06.2007] With summer just starting the weather has been warm enough I thought it would be a good time to give the Mount Evans Scenic Byway a try. The byway is the highest paved highway in North America. The mountain is 14,264 feet (4350 m) with the road taking the visitor to the 14,130 foot (4307 m) level. The last little gain in elevation must be done on foot. Near the top is also located the University of Denver Meyer-Wo [more]
