The Moving Wall Viet Nam War Memorial - White Pine, United States of America
Visiting the traveling Viet Nam War Memorial (15.07.2008 02:27)
My son and I awoke one Saturday with no particular plans. We were watching the new when it was announced the Traveling Viet Nam War Memorial would be in Thornton that day. We thought it would be a good way to start the day. The Viet Nam war was during a period of American history that was one of the most divisive in its history. A lasting tribute to those that fought in the war was the Viet [more...] -
Boulder Falls - Boulder, United States of America
Up the path to the falls. (12.07.2008 18:11)
One of the joys of living in the part of Colorado that I do is the proximity to both mountain and plain. Until recently I have been working in Boulder which sits right at the base of what is locally known as the Front Range. That is the mountains facing the cities of Denver, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins and Boulder are all the first mountains to be bumped into when coming from the east, the [more...] -
16th Street Mall - Denver, United States of America
A walk on Downtown Denver's Promenade (08.07.2008 05:01)
While my son and I were in the area (we had attended the Cherry Creek Arts Festival) we thought we would go ahead and visit the 16th Street Mall. The 16th Street Mall oddly enough runs along 16th Street in downtown Denver running from Market Street to Broadway. It was formerly a one way street in the heart of downtown but was converted to an urban walk and bus way. There are no cars allowed on [more...] -
Cherry Creek Arts Festival - Denver, United States of America
Art at Cherry Creek. (06.07.2008 02:28)
Every year during the weekend of the fourth of July the Cherry Creek Arts Festival takes place in the Cherry Creek district of Denver. It takes place on city street near the Cherry Creek shopping district consuming some six city blocks in depth and two city blocks height. St. Paul Street this year became culinary Avenue while Milwaukee Street is Artivity Avenue. This is where people of all ages [more...] -
Coors Field - Denver, United States of America
A fun night at a mile high (04.07.2008 18:27)
I have a friend whose son wanted to go see a baseball game. We thought about it and thought it would be fun go on the third of July. It would be a Thursday night game but there would be no work the next day due to the fourth of July holiday so we bought tickets. I have not been to Coors Field for about seven years and have been looking forward to it for a couple of weeks. As an added bonus the [more...] -
Armed Forces Tribute Garden - Westminster, United States of America
A place of quiet contemplation (29.06.2008 03:32)
My daughter recently moved in and is working at City Park here in Westminster, Colorado where we live. One evening I was to pick her up from work and give her a ride back home. I had not been in that part of town for a while ad noticed while driving up there was a new memorial in the park so I thought I would go back later in the day (it is summer now and blazing hot) to investigate. I got [more...] -
Barr Lake State Park - Brighton, United States of America
Hot fun in the summer sun (15.06.2008 03:44)
My son is home from college and we felt that we needed to take a bit of a hike so we talked it over and picked Barr Lake for our adventure. Barr Lake is a state park located just outside Brighton, Colorado. It was formerly a buffalo wallow, a place where bison would roll in the dirt to rid themselves of ticks and other parasites. Since that time a dam was built to impound the water that currently [more...] -
Chautauqua Park - Boulder, United States of America
A sunny day walk in the park (09.06.2008 05:03)
Chautauqua Park is one of the jewels in the City of Boulder's multitude of parks and recreational opportunities the citizens of Boulder and Colorado get to enjoy. This particular park is located at the base of the Front Range that is the backdrop for the City of Boulder. The featured formation at this point of the mountains is known as the Flat Irons. They are a large rock formation formed when [more...] -
The Danish Windmill Museum - Elk Horn, United States of America
Don Quixote finds a windmill (25.05.2008 01:56)
My recent trip to Chicago by car is a length journey along Interstate 80. Unlike the trip back which was to be a wheels up, peddle to the metal, sixteen hour straight shot home, the trip out was much more leisurely one with a stop along the way to refresh. When I left Denver there was no specific plan as to where to stay or what if anything special to see. I have not been on I 80 for decades and [more...] -
Half Day Forest Preserve - Libertyville, United States of America
My Hike at the Half Day Forest Preserve (24.05.2008 15:27)
I recently had occasion to take a road trip across the middle of the United States in my little red car. The purpose was to watch my daughter graduate from college in Illinois. Her college is located in a small town called Lake Forest a bit north of the city of Chicago along the shores of Lake Michigan. There are no hotels in Lake Forest itself but there are several in the nearby towns. So I [more...]
