The Natal Sharks Board is an unique institution which focuses on the research and conservation of sharks as well as the prevention of shark attacks. Replicas of various species are on display and visitors can view a shark dissection as well as an audio-visual presentation. Shows are presented at 09h00 and 14h00 from Tuesday to Thursday and at 14h00 on Sundays. Facilities include a curio shop which, along with the display venue, are open on weekdays from 08h00 to 16h00 and on Sundays from 13h00 to 16h00. At present more than 400 nets are spread along 250km of coast and it is possible to participate in a 2-hour boat trip when the shark nets along the Golden Mile are serviced. The boats depart daily at around 06h30 from Wilson's Wharf and booking is essential. Cost is roughly 20 Euro per person and 6-12 persons are allowed per trip.
Wave House provides facilities for board-sports and includes a 4000sqm skatepark as well as water chutes and a D-Rex wave simulator for surfers. It also offers live entertainment and hosts regular events and concerts. A bar and restaurant are provided and the venue can be booked for corporate and private functions. Opening hours are from 09h00 with closing at 19h00 on Sundays, 22h00 on Fridays and Saturdays, and at 20h00 the rest of the week.
Gateway Theatre of Shopping is the largest mall in South Africa and one of the largest in the southern hemisphere. Opened in September 2001, it houses a selection of upmarket retail stores, conference venues and entertainment options which include indoor extreme sports, an Imax Theatre, amusement arcade with ten pin bowling, a science centre with various interactive displays and multiple cinemas, bars and restaurants. Opening hours are from 09h00 to 19h00 Monday to Thursday, 09h00 to 22h00 on Fridays and Saturdays and from 09h00 to 18h00 on Sundays. This 430-seater theatre at the Durban Gateway is part of the Barnyard chain of supper-theatres and opened in 2001. Although snacks, pizzas and a selection of other meals are on offer, guests may provide their own. The focus is primarily on musical shows and discounted tariffs are available for Tuesday nights and Sunday matinees. Facilities include a bar and cigar lounge and the opening hours are at 18h30 (Tuesday to Saturday) and at 12h30 on Sundays. Performances commence at 20h00 and 14h00 respectively.
Der Durban Country Club wurde 1922 eröffnet und gilt als bekanntester und zugleich schwerster Kurs des Landes. Loch 3 gilt gar als eines der besten Par 5 der Welt. Der Platz an sich ist ein 18-Loch-Platz auf dem bereits 13 Mal die nationalen Meisterschaften ausgetragen wurden. Schläger und Caddies können geliehen werden, Handicap ist nur bei Turnieren erforderlich. Der Club ist Samstags und Sonntags geschlossen.
