If you enter the basilica by the main west door, you'll see the "double side aisles" that form the 5 naves, which is a very unusual architectural feature for the Romanesque period. Built in 1096, it is, According to Frommer's , the "largest and finest" Romanesque church of Europe. The porte Miègeville is an "outstanding feature", decorated with 12th century sculptures and opening onto the south aisle. The tombs of the comtes of Toulouse lay here. An "upper cloister" forms a "passageway" around the interior. The ambulatory, which contains relics of the apostles and the first Bishop of Toulouse

It is ranked as "France's largest and most complete Romanesque structure", the Basilique St-Sernin "was once an important stop" on the pilgrimage to St-Jacques. It measures almost 115 meters long, and the "magnificent" octagonal tower of 65 meters, is both "Roman and Gothic styles". The author of the guide tells us that there are "many relics" in the "basilica's crypt", and of course, the tomb of St-Sernin, "martyr and bishop". "On the same square", we are told that you can find the "Musée Saint-Raymond", which is "filled with information about the city's past".
