The reviewer tells us that the hotel is rated 5 star by the government and is located in an 1866 building in the "West Country". He also tells us that it is "way ahead of its competition" due to extensive refurbishment. There are 2.2 hectares of gardens, which are described as "subtropical" and give views out to the Channel.

The author then goes on to say that the interior is a "world of soaring ceilings", columns of marble and "ornate plasterwork" and even royalty could make The Imperial home.

Guest rooms are said to be "studies in grand living" with details about the furnishings adorning the rooms and the "grandly appointed" bathrooms having luxury toiletries.

Frommer's gives The Imperial their highest rating of 3 stars.
