Be prepared for a very long wait in the queue when you take your trip up the CN Tower for it is visited by about 2 million people a year!. This is an absolute "must-see" experience and one not to be missed, if you ever get to Toronto.
The size of the tower is staggering, far higher than the Eiffel Tower and it is quite a daunting sight from the outside. It is 553 metres tall, making it the worlds highest building. It was completed in 1976 and built by the Canadian National company hence its name of the CN Tower.
Once you have paid the fare and endured the long, long wait in the well-organized queue, it might take well over an hour, you enter the glass walled elevator and are speedily transported to the top - a trip that gives you an amazing view of the rapidly diminishing ground!
When you get to the observation deck at 342 metres, you can walk around the the whole tower taking in the marvellous vista of Toronto and the lake it is upon. The views are truly spectacular and well worth the wait.
If you have no fear of heights, there is a glass floor to walk upon, gazing down upon the city many 100s of metres below you - for many people this is totally impossible to do! There seems to be nothing holding you up! (Except of course, the very thick and very strong glass which your mind takes no notice of).
Want to extend your stay? One floor up at 346m you have a cafe but only a few metres higher at 360m, there is an excellent restaurant serving meals that are not over-priced like at some other tourist traps I have been to. This restaurant features a revolving floor which rotates every 72 minutes. The view whilst you eat will certainly keep your attention. Below in the harbour, you can watch sea-planes taking off and landing at a small waterside aerodrome.
For the really adventurous, the final trip is to the Skypod at a dizzy 447m. This is on the very point of the needle that tops the tower.
All to soon, this exhilarating trip must end and you descend to terra firma, with many photos to show the realtives!
As well as your trip there is a retail marketplace for the usual souvenirs and a games arcade that has lots of simulator experiences.
What price do you pay? It all depends upon your status, child, adult or senior citizen and also upon how far you want to go up, just to the observation stage or right to the very top. Expect to pay between C$20 and C$30 for an adult and between C$14 and C$20 for a child.
Buying the tickets is generally quite fast but they can be bought on-line to speed up the process. You will still have to queue though to board the lift! You get no discount on the tickets for this way however.
And where is it? It is so big that it dominates the skyline of Toronto. The easiest way to get there is by subway to the Union Station, near to the lake front. From there it is only a few hundred metres west by foot.
I have uploaded some photos that were taken whilst at the tower.
