When you visit the CN Tower you can purchase several ticket types which take into account the different levels available on the tower as well as some additional entertainment. You ned to be aware of what each has to offer in order to choose the best ticket for yourself.
The main observation deck is called The Lookout and this is where the best views are. There is also the Glass Floor which as its name suggests is a glass floor you can stand on to look down to the ground. The highest level is the Skypod, although this is not necessarily as good as the Lookout level. Additional attractions include a movie, motion theatre ride and the shop. You can buy tickets for one or two items of a ticket with encompasses all items. Prices range from $22 - $33 per adult or $20 - $33 for children.
I have visited the CN Tower on a couple of occasions now and here are my thoughts.
When you enter the tower at ground level, you enter the ticket area. Depending on the time of year you visit there may or may not be queues. You can however buy all your tickets online before you visit which saves time and queueing. Once you have purchased your ticket you walk round the back to await the elevator. You will be greeted by a guide dressed in white coat and looking every bit the mad professor (male or female). You will be escorted to the elevator and the guide will accompany you and give odd facts about the tower as you go. The glass fronted elevator is pretty fast at 15 miles per hour and takes just under a minute to reach the lookout level.
When you exit here you are left to your own devices, so you can take as long as you like to take in the views. The lookout covers a full 360 degrees, so you dont miss any of the sights. Try to keep an eye on the weather forecast, so you can chose a day with exceptionally good weather and so get excellent views. You can see Lake Ontario, the islands and of course the city of Toronto itself. There is a café at this level too, so you can sip your coffee gazing out across the vastness of the Toronto skyline.
If your ticket include the glass floor you can visit this next. You go down a few steps to reach this level. You can of course take your own photos, but there is also a photographer on hand to take your photo with their specially set up camera, which looks from the ceiling down onto the glass floor. We had ours done and sat on the floor and 90 degree angles from each other so there was still a good view of the floor. They actually take a couple of shots and you can then view then on the computer screen and choose which one you want. You then get a ticket to pick them out from the gift shop when you leave. There is a charge of about $25 each.
You can then go up another elevator to the highest level, the Skypod. Obviously the views are the same, just from a bit higher up. Also the views are more restricted as the glass windows are not as large as on the Lookout level. If cost is an issue, I would say, leave this level out as you get much more from the main level and it is not necessarily worth the extra. If money is not an issue, then you really have to go up there, just because you can!
The movie which is included in some ticket costs is basically a film showing the construction of the Tower. You can also purchase a copy in the shop. The film is interesting and if you have the time and construction is your thing, then you may as well take in tis extra feature.
The motion theatre ride does change every so often so you are best to check on the website to see what is showing, usually is has very little to do with the CN Tower, but if you like simulator rides then again you may as well take advantage.
One you have completed all the levels you want you exit once again via the elevator and come out, guess where, the gift shop. You can get some of the usual tat here, such as a 3D puzzle of the tower complete with flashing light on top, but they also have clothing, cards, etc. Well worth the visit. Generally the prices in he gift shop are very competitive and are not hiked just because it is a tourist attraction. I have purchased a couple of tops here are they are great quality.
If you are in Toronto, you have to go up the CN Tower its the law!
