Switzerland
[20/12/2008] Verbier is one of Trivago's top 10 European ski resorts. Popular with the British especially, it has become fiendishly expensive over the years. It has surpsingly few hotels, catering mainly for the chalet and flat market. There is a particular shortage of affordable hotels as most price up stratospherically.
The pluses for the Mirabeau are its location (literally five minutes from the main lift station) and the friendliness of Sylvie its proprietor.
Its minuses are that it is noisy (but Verbier unlike most of Switzerland) is a noisy place where the British in particular think nothing

[31/08/2008] This hotel, originally opened in the mid 60s - has been totally modernized.
Owned by Simon and Franziska Anderegg (the Andereggs are one of the town's most prominent families), it offers comfortable rooms, fairly priced, and a truly sensational restaurant (Gault Millau 14, deserves higher). The Alpine views are stunning. Main gripes: pay as you go internet access (in 2008 it should be free like water and electricity) with a complex log-in procedure and piped music in the restaurant. Two simple changes - free internet and a silent dining room - would allow me to give it a "perfection" ranking.

[17/08/2008] Mr and Mrs Buchs-Favre, the owners of this historic hotel, have done a great job
in creating the hospitality and attention to detail of a byegone age. Not only is this a very comfortable hotel, the food is good, the service most attentive and the views over the Alps are amazing. My gripes are only very minor (parking is not convenient, the bed was a little short) but overall the experience was fantastic.
[29/05/2008] We first visited this hotel about ten years ago. Then it was simple and rustic.
As the legend of M. Chevrier's cooking grows around the world, so has he invested in the rooms and today, although not quite luxurious, they are very comfortable indeed. It is located in Peney-Dessus, a tiny village just ten minutes drive from Geneva Airport so a good alternative to staying in Geneva itself. The food is exquisite.
[27/04/2008] This is a world-class hotel. Great rooms. Fantastic staff . Lovely location.
Faultless.
[31/03/2008] I had a great time here and would return. Much, much nicer than its rival the Belvedere, a plateglass monstrosity that looks like a politbureau building
which pollutes the Grindelwald skyline (I stayed there in the nineties and did not like it). One word of caution: there seems to be a lot of building work going on behind the hotel (chalets and a huge apartment block) - not sure how much noise and disruption this will bring - or for how long.
[24/02/2008] If you are looking for a nice hotel on Lake Geneva and do not want to pay the stratospheric prices of Geneva and Lausanne, this is a good place to go.
It is in a stunning location and is well run and comfortable. I recommend it.
Two practical suggestions for the owners: get wi-fi for all the rooms and turn off the piped music.
