Ibis Lincoln - Lincoln, United Kingdom - January, 2007
What happened to my 15 minute promise? (07.01.2007 21:38)
With the memory of the IBIS Chesterfield barely cold in my mind, it was with a comfortable heart and no fear of what lay ahead as I trundled up the A46 towards Lincoln, because all these outlets are clones of one another, arent they? WHO ARE THEY? IBIS are part of the French hotel chain Accor hotels, who are also responsible for bringing us Sofitel, Novotel, and Formula 1. IBIS stands one [more...] -
Ibis Chesterfield - Chesterfield, United Kingdom - December, 2006
The dog had a great nights sleep (29.12.2006 14:33)
A 930 start in Belper for a dog show, preceded by supper and a meeting in Chesterfield the previous evening were sufficient to send me off on the hunt for local accommodation that also allowed Pets. I took (for me) the unusual step of seeking advice from a local, and as a result booked myself into the IBIS Chesterfield. WHO ARE THEY? IBIS are part of the French owned Accor Hotel group who [more...] -
Thistle Euston - London, United Kingdom - June, 2006
Almost on the right track (27.12.2006 12:14)
Thistle Hotels are a relatively small chain by International Standards offering 47 hotels across the UK, 16 of which are in and around London. After searching extensively for three rooms in a central London hotel, it was with some trepidation I discovered I would be staying in a Thistle. Having used them on two prior occasions, finding small rooms, and often poor quality food, I was nervous on [more...] -
Best Western Wynnstay - Oswestry, United Kingdom - October, 2004
Wynn Stay or Will Stay (26.12.2006 19:26)
I stumbled across the Wynnstay rather by accident when looking for accommodation when travelling between Bolton and Newtown North Wales for meeting. Being part of the Best Western Chain I thought the Wynnstay would be OK for a one night stop-over. What I didnt realise until I stayed here, is that the Best Western is not a chain, it is simply a brand encapsulating around 3,500 worldwide [more...] -
Cedar Court Huddersfield - Huddersfield, United Kingdom - August, 2005
Ainley Who (21.12.2006 20:18)
For anyone who has ever had the pleasure to visit Huddersfield, which despite many people's reactions, actually seems like quite a pleasant city with good education and shopping facilities, what it doesn't offer is many high quality hotels, at least, not that I have been able to find. LOCATION The Cedar Court Hotel, is a privately owned outlet, formerly owned by Hilton International is [more...] -
Marriott London Heathrow Airport - London, United Kingdom - October, 2004
A good start to your holiday (06.12.2006 11:55)
An early Monday morning meeting in central London meant my options were a 3.30am start, or a stopover somewhere close. Travelling from the West, Heathrow seemed like the obvious choice and the offerings on Bath Road are broad; from the Renaissance to the Novotel, the Sheraton Skyline and many luxury and budget outlets in-between, to my choice, the Marriott because it met my criteria of in room [more...] -
Jurys Inn Birmingham - Birmingham, United Kingdom - May, 2005
Birmingham Jury 4 to 1 in Favour (28.11.2006 00:54)
For anyone not aware of the Jurys Doyle chain, they are an Irish chain with over 30 properties in the UK, Ireland and the States and claim to be one of the fastest growing hotel chains in Europe. They have three levels of offering, the budget Jurys Inn range, the Jurys Hotel, and 3-5 star luxury bands, the Berkeley Court, the Towers, and the Westbury outlets. Being relatively easy access from [more...] -
Jurys Inn Edinburgh - Edinburgh, United Kingdom - March, 2005
Split Decision from the Edinburgh Jury (25.11.2006 00:34)
Jurys Doyle is a hotel and inn chain with its roots in Ireland and 36 hotels in cities across Ireland, the UK and a handful in the US, with another 3 UK outlets opened in the UK in 2005. Their offerings range from 3 star inns to 5 star luxury. Jurys Inn Edinburgh is just that, an Inn rather than a hotel, and at the lower end of the Jurys Doyle chain, room-wise comparable with the Premier half [more...] -
Novotel Coventry - Coventry, United Kingdom - March, 2005
Great for the NEC without breaking the bank (24.11.2006 14:06)
The Novotel outlets belongs to the French chain, Accor, who are also credited with bringing us, among others, Sofitel (Luxury), Mercure, Ibis, (Budget) and Formule 1 (Ultra budget). Like most reputable hotel chains, rooms can be booked on-line, and this hotel offers an internet rate of £45 per room per night at weekends, during the week you are looking at the slightly more costly price of £72. [more...] -
Quality Harrow - Harrow, United Kingdom - November, 2005
Not the most appropriately named hotel (24.11.2006 11:41)
The Quality Hotel chain is part of the Choice Hotels Europe group, the quality brand sits between Comfort at the bottom of the chain, and Clarion at the top, so what is on offer at a Comfort doesn't bear thinking about. I seem to remember vaguely that this particular outlet was once a Comfort but presumably changed its name when renovated. When visiting London, quite often, I take the car, [more...]
