This reviewer was impressed with the "amazingly intact" state of Skara Brae, exposed 150 years ago by strong winds but dating back to Neolithic times. She first saw some of the artifacts and "a short video" at the visitor centre before seeing the houses. She really liked being able to "climb down in" the houses for a closer look, a "great thing" in common with other Orkney sites where visitors are able to come into contact with monuments "directly", without "barriers" or "glass". She felt that the site was "amazingly developed", including the inside of the houses. To help visitors gain a "deeper understanding" of the lives of the early inhabitants of Orkney, a "complete house" was built, and another was "somewhat restored". The guides are "usually standing quietly" but able to answer questions. One of them told her that similar sites existed "throughout" the islands, undiscovered as yet. Because of the proximity of many other sites, it was possible to see a lot "within one day".
