At the west end of Water Street, which is the main street in St. Andrews, New Brunswick, you'll find Joe's Point Road at the foot of Harriet Street. The wooden blockhouse that sits just off of the water behind low grass-encased earthworks was built by St. Andrews townspeople during the War of 1812 and is all that remains of a number of scattered fortifications that were created in and around St. Andrews. During low tide you can walk out on the rocks all the way to an island. To the east of the blockhouse is a building that houses the Niger Reef Tea House. There is also a park across the street from the blockhouse, called Centennial Park, where one can have a picnic. |
