Compiled for you: The facts!Details Sisak City Museum

Description: There has been a museum in Sisak for 150 years, but its present location in the town fortress dates from 1966 when the fortress was restored. The fortress itself is of interest as it was at the centre of the Battle of Sisak (1593), when a combined force of Croats and Slovenians defeated the Turks. The museum covers the history of the area from prehistory to the present day. There are important finds from the Roman occupation of the area, when the town was called Siscia, and an extensive coin collection. A local culture section has displays of artefacts and handicrafts. The "gallery" area exhibits art by 20th century Croatian artists, and the newest area is devoted to a historical record of the war in the early 1990s. There is a historical research library. The website has an on-line ordering facility of copies of objects on display.
