[TanaN, 20/09/2011] If going to Sintra, you must visit also Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of continental Europe.
Accesibility of Cabo da Roca is good, but time consuming. There are regular bus services from Cascais to Sintra both ways (ask the staff at train station for more info). From Sintra it take about 1 hour to reach Cabo da Roca, due to narrow road and traffic.
But once, you undertake this trip you will not regret. The view of ocean is gorgeous. Blue water of Atlantic ocean making the perfect match with the green flora and gray-yellow cliffs.
It's better to save some extra time for the trip to C

Magnifica! Meravigliosa... anzi, trovato: Magica!!

[ricardofdgraca, 26/03/2011] I liked Penha Longa because , it have got a large propriety .
inside hotel you cant view the limits of the propriety.
The golfs courts and the trees are green.
you can take a deep breath in there.
[resy, 20/02/2010] This Palace is only cool because of the fact that it is on the top of a mountain, and is not worth the money
There is a tram looking car that takes you to the palace from the entrence for 1 euro. You should only take it if you are disabled, the hill to the palace is way shorter than most of the normal hills in Lisbon, and most people would easily be able to walk the distance
The park around the palace is looking exactly like the rest of the mountain wich is free
[resy, 20/02/2010] Very cool place, with something for all ages and interests, it is both fun like some kind of theme park, beautiful, and relaxing at the same time
[MALU, 12/05/2008] After visiting the National Palace in the centre of Sintra, we took a taxi (there‘s also a bus service) to the Palácio da Pena (approximately 5 km out of town). We had only our old guidebooks with us with ugly black and white photos, so we weren´t prepared for what we saw: we bought tickets in a booth beside the street (4 Euro / concession 2 Euro [three years ago]), came into a park where an odd vehicle was waiting, a kind of mini train in which one could ride up the steep mountain if one didn‘t want to walk (1 Euro), we took it and when we had climbed up we saw the kitschiest castle ever! An i

[MALU, 12/05/2008] It‘s possible to get to Sintra from Lisbon directly but I can‘t tell you anything about this as we went to Cascais first, the seaside town at the mouth of the river Tejo, and took a bus from there.
Sintra is a town of about 20 000 inhabitants situated on a slope with the ruins of a Moorish fortress on the top of the mountain. We got off at the highest point of the town, the National Palace which is in the middle of the slope with the town below, the palace and the town were classified by UNESCO as part of World Heritage in 1995.
Built on the remains of another Moorish fortress the palace
