Description

[more]Dating from 1157, the Schöntal Abbey served as a Cistercian monastery and, for the period between 1418 and 1495 it was also an Imperial Abbey of the Holy Roman Empire. The building features Baroque architecture and functioned as an ecclesiastical palace during the 18th century, until in 1802 Duke Friedrich of Württemberg had it turned into royal offices. From 1810 it served as a theological seminary and currently it not only functions as the local Town Hall, but also provides retreats and conferencing options.
