The review starts by telling us how the Hotel María Cristinais is "one of the most spectacular" in Spain, with a location to match in the center of town. The hotel, which is rated exceptional by Frommer's, was first established in 1912 with a "facade of chiseled stone and ornate ironwork". Mr Porter reveals that it is often home to the "glitterati", especially "during San Sebastián's film festival".
