[fizzytom, 27/11/2011] As handsome as Salzburg is, I found it an oddly dull city in terms of colour. Roofs and walls are grey; the pavements much the same. In the back ground the mountains, unless clad in snow, are jagged peaks of more grey stone. A few of the handsome townhouses and hotels are painted but the colours tend to be muted.
In spite of it being one of the busiest places in the city, I was grateful for the vibrant colours of the Baroque Mirabell Gardens. Stepping into the carefully manicured gardens reminded me of how 'The Wizard of Oz' moves from monochrome to technicolour as Dorothy leaves Kansas and

[fizzytom, 27/11/2011] Salzburg has a long brewing tradition and it’s a great destination to consider if you are into visiting breweries and beer halls. Having spent a couple of hours at Stiegl Brauwelt, we moved on to the Augustiner Brewery which is on the same side of town but much nearer the centre.
As the name suggests this brewery was set up by monks in the first half of the seventeenth century. Today the Augustiner Brewery is a large commercial concern and the beer is made in a modern purpose built brewery situated beside the abbey but the techniques are still largely traditional and the enterprise is desc

[fizzytom, 30/10/2011] Salzburg is famous for Mozart (you can visit the house of his birth and another he lived in later), the Sound of Music (there are umpteen different tours to take based on the movie), castles, palaces and mountains. But we spent a day visiting breweries. And why not? We have mountains and castles galore in Slovenia but very few breweries, whereas Salzburg has more breweries than you could (easily) shake a stick at (in a single day).
Stiegl is the biggest of the breweries and is a major commercial enterprise with its beers being sold all over Austria whereas the other breweries tend to be con

[ggmsu, 05/09/2011] We had a fantastic stay at the Bloberger Hof Hotel. The Junior Suite was spacious and perfect for our family of 4. The hotel was clean, quiet, convenient to Salzburg and Hohenwerfen Castle, and the staff very friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed dinner and breakfast at the hotel. We wished that we had a longer stay, and look forward to returning again.
[joveneli, 17/06/2011] Hometown of Mozart is home and to the Castle Hohensalzburg in Salzburg, Austria. The Castle is also one of the symbols of the town. According to me, this is the largest attraction in the territory of Salzburg. Perhaps, because it is erected on the one from the high places in the town, еven difficult accessible the castle does not stop to draws the tourists. Massive building drew and my account. The castle is open an permanently for visitors. Movement to Castle Hohensalzburg can be carried out by lift. At the time the castle is a museum. Certainly, it is worth to see this beautiful medieval bui

[john_b, 30/05/2011] We booked via trivago and found that this establishment was great!
We could walk into the altstadt or take the "1" tram for a 5 minute ride.
Highly recommended!
[walbeck, 12/02/2011] If you are romantic, if you want to be near the Mirabell garden and if you need very "plueschi" rooms you cannot make a mistake. The rooms are big and you expect the geheimrats being there. We never had a bathroom like this- huge! The clientele is more to the elderly side but who wants a hip hotel in Salzburg. Really charming!
[ChrisUK, 04/12/2010] Simple and basic but nothing wrong with that. It was clean and I'd be happy to stay again.
Cheaper as its a way from the centre but when there is a frequent bus with a stop right outside, this really isn't a problem.
Small rooms. Small but reasonably comfortable beds. Good shower. Good free wi-fi and decent TV. Very friendly and helpful staff at front desk. Few amenities but shops nearby and drinks sold in reception.
Anyone looking to visit Salzburg on a budget, this is the place to stay!
[work2travel83, 19/10/2010] My boyfriend and I stayed at Haus Wartenberg in the middle of a 12 day tour of Bavaria. We found this charming B&B last minute while in Fussen. The price was perfect and the service couldn't be better. Johannas and his wife were very welcoming and accommodating to our needs. Since we were only traveling with a backpack, we needed to do a small load of laundry. Normally they charged 7 euro, but since we were leaving before breakfast they swapped out this service for us.
It was easy to get to from the train station. We took the bus route which dropped us off just a couple minutes from Hau

[WennyP, 19/09/2010] Bloberger Hof is a lovely place to visit and spend some time. The owners are really nice people and nothing is too much trouble. Our room was very comfortable and we were fortunate enough to have a balcony, which we sat out on in the evenings to relax after a hard day's sightseeing. We ate at the hotel's restaurant on three occasions, each time the food was prepared to perfection (yes, that word again!). The bus stop for the number 21 bus into the centre of Salzburg is a mere 1 minute walk from the front door of the hotel (or maybe 1.5 minutes if your legs are aching from the day before!)

[apoole23, 25/08/2010] My husband and I spent 2 nights at this lovely B&B in August 2010, but we've been coming here for 11 years now! We travel frequently to Europe and since Salzburg is one of our favorite cities, we've stayed at Haus Wartenberg 5 times now.
Location: It's great. It's just outside the city center-only a pleasant 10 minute stroll to get to the main sites. It's on a nice street with other hotels, restaurants, and upscale residences. It's also just 10 minutes from Augustinerbrau, a fun beer hall that we visit on every trip. I once stayed in the city center and actually regretted it. I paid

[Railrunner, 20/07/2010] Here online it has been indicated as bed & breakfast but it is far more then that. A family owned hotel with very friendly staff providing detailed touristical information if you wish so. Rooms are clean and comfortable, breakfast is good. I experienced Salzburg can be very warm in summer the hotel has no airco but the streets either so I can not really blame the hotel. A place I can honnestly recommend great location the short distance to the main station and the old town on walking distance. The city has a lot to offer and it is not difficult to imagine those nearby mountains with snow durin

[keiks, 18/04/2010] We did not know what to expect, since to start with, we were primarily looking for a place nearby downtown and affordable, but not much more. In the end we found a place the still nurtures the type of family-like hospitality that comes with no guide, nor can it be priced. Wartenberg features everything, absolutely likeable people running the place, excellent food in a cozy little restaurant 1st floor, the building as such respires centuries of history and is ideally placed to venture into downtown Salzburg. So all in all, a very pleasent suprise, since pricing seems completely out of wak with

[elsitlsit, 25/02/2010] My wife and I stayed here for a couple days after we dropped in on Salzburg without reservations, just decided to visit and hoped for passable accommodations somewhere. We literally just pulled up and walked in hoping to find a zimmer frei. We were in luck, and it turned out our luck wasn't just in finding a room. In almost 2 weeks of travel in 3 countries, this was probably our favorite. Bloberger Hof's room, overall comfort, plus the delicious food, and the QUIET setting just far enough in the country (along with a view of the fields behind the Hof outside our window) made for a great pl

[Beverly, 16/01/2010] I have been returning to this hotel / pension for several years. This is a wonderful family owned pension. The owners and staff are wonderful and go out of their way to ensure your stay is pleasant. The pension is beautiful inside with wonderful views, especially if you a room with a balcony and it is kept immaculately clean. The breakfasts are generous and their restaurant serves excellent evening meals.
This pension is a bit out of town, however the bus is just a stones thrown away and buses to the city centre are frequent and inexpensive.
[wecsil, 04/12/2009] Clean, modern, comfortable, quiet. A little out of the way. Great place to stay for one night.
[parishronny, 09/10/2009] We had a great time in this small family runned hotel. They provide free internet a good breakfast served till late. Staff is very kind and speak english. We reccomend the hotel to all travellers.
[alexridge, 19/09/2009] This is a convenient hotel close to the train station and the pedestrian area with good value for the price. Kind staff most of then can speak fluent English. Rich complimentary breakfast and very clean good sized room some with balcony, easy parking and close to all major attractions. I higly reccomend this place to all of you
[laszlo1, 01/09/2009] During the summer festival in Salzburg we stayed in this charming Hotel Adlerhof. The location near the train station and only a short walk to the old town was perfect for us.
The rooms are really nice and comfortable -we had one in Austrian Style- and the breakfast was very good ,all this for a very reasonable price.
Also the staff was always friendly and helpful.
