Schloss Hellbrunn is situated "6 1 / 2 km (4 mi) south of Salzburg" and this attraction was "the prince-archbishops' pleasure palace". It was built by "Santino Solari for Markus Sittikus" in the early 17th century". You are advised that the castle has "some fascinating rooms" and these include "an octagonal music room and a banquet hall with a trompe-l'oeil ceiling". There is also Hellbrunn Park which is "often described as a jewel of landscape architecture" due to its "magnificent gardens and tree-lined avenues". The author starts by informing us "this palace dates from the early 17th century". It a much different original purpose as it "was built as a hunting lodge and summer residence for Prince-Archbishop Markus Sittikus". The zoo adjacent to the palace was " formerly the palace deer park". It close to Salzburg as the author informs us it is "a 20-minute drive from Salzburg; turn off Alpenstrasse at the Mobil gas station". The palace has large gardens. We are told it is "one of the oldest baroque formal gardens in all Europe". These gardens are famous "for their trick fountains". One handy hint
