Hotel Sépia Sainte-Foy
Die Kasaner Kathedrale ist eine russisch-orthodoxe Kirche und wurde von 1801 bis 1811 nach dem Vorbild des römischen Petersdoms gebaut. Die Seitenfassade, die aus 13 m hohen korinthischen Säulen besteht, ist dem Newski Prospekt zugewandt. Der Name der Kathedrale kommt von der Ikone "Gottesmutter von Kasan", die 1579 in Kasan gefunden wurde, aber 1904 entwendet wurde. 2001 konnte sie wieder zurückgeführt werden. Anfangs war die Kathedrale mehr ein Aufbewahrungsort für die Flaggen und Schlüssel der eroberten Festungen und Städten der russischen Armee. 1813 wurde der Feldmarschall Michail Kutusow (Held des Kriegs von 1812) hier beigesetzt. 1876 fand hier die erste "Sozialrevolutionäre Demonstration" auf russischem Boden statt. Um weitere Versammlungen dieser Art zu verhindern, wurden hier Gründflächen angelegt. Demonstrationen fanden trotzdem statt. 1932 haben die sowjetischen Machthaber ausgerechnet hier ein Museum für "Religion und Atheismus" eingerichtet. Seit 1992 finden hier wieder Gottesdienste statt. Auf dem Gebäude steht seit dem "Christus ist erwacht". Gottesdienste finden täglich von 10.00-18.00 Uhr statt (kostenlos). Man kann auch an Führungen teilnehmen. Vorträge werden in russischer und englischer Sprache gehalten. Sie kosten 100 Rubel (3 EUR).
