Brandy falls is located close to Portsmouth in the northern part of the island. A guide is recommended because there is no marked trail to the falls themselves. There is no entrance fee and it is always accessible.
Starting at Brandy Manor Guesthouse, where you can purchase refreshments. The road section can be accessed with a 4-wheel drive vehicle, but you will have to hike into the rain forest to get to the falls themselves. It is a 2 hour hike along both undeveloped roads and hiking trails along the river.
The riverbed is strewn with slippery boulders and care must be taken that you do not slip and injure yourself.
The falls are more like a cascade, but are very tall and steep. There is no pool at the base of the falls, but you can stand under the cool water. There are also a few pools where you can relax in the water.
Shirley Heights Lookout
Shirley Heights Lookout is a popular spot for both tourists and residents. The Shirley Heights Lookout Bar and Restaurant is the focal point of this area.
It has a location high up in the hills where visitors can look out over English Harbour and enjoy the local natural beauty. It is located on an old military site.
One of the main reasons for visitors coming to Shirley Heights is to dance the night away on party nights that take place every Thursday and Sunday where live steel bands perform and there is a selection of food and drink also available.
The restaurant is open daily from 9am until 10pm, expect on Mondays when it closes at sunset. It serves tradition Caribbean food as well as more typical international dishes.
