Firsby Reservoirs - Rotherham, United Kingdom
    Firsby Reservoirs (29.03.2008 10:07)
Firsby Reservoirs lie approximately 4 miles (7 Kilometres) to the north east of Rotherham town centre in South Yorkshire. They consist of two separate bodies of water that were created between 1874 and 1880 to provide a supply of fresh drinking water to Rotherham and the surrounding area. Their secondary purpose was to also to act as holding reservoirs for the nearby Thrybergh Reservoir [more...]

Catcliffe Flash Nature Reserve - Rotherham, United Kingdom
    An urban oasis (15.01.2008 22:10)
Catcliffe Flash is in my opinion a real little gem of a place, despite its rather uncomfortable setting, nestled between housing estates and abandoned open cast mining sites. Situated six miles to the east of Sheffield city centre, just across the Rotherham boundary it is a place where I spent a lot of my childhood, and consequently a place that I have a lot of very fond memories of. What is [more...]

Clifton Park Museum - Rotherham, United Kingdom
The Clifton Park Museum (10.08.2007 17:43)
Clifton Park museum is located on the fringe of Rotherham town centre. The museum is housed in Clifton House, a Grade 11 listed building dating from 1793. This house was designed by John Carr, a prominent architect of that time and it was the family home of the Walker family. The original occupier was Joshua Walker and his wife. Joshua's father had made his fortune in the local steel industry. [more...]

The South Yorkshire Transport Museum (09.07.2007 19:56)
The South Yorkshire Transport Museum can be found at Aldwarke, near Rotherham in South Yorkshire. Until recently this transport museum was located in the former Tinsley tram sheds between Sheffield and Rotherham. I visited here about 4 years ago and it was then called the Sheffield Bus Museum. Now it has relocated, it has been given a new name, the South Yorkshire Transport Museum. The former [more...]

    Rotherham Minster (09.07.2007 09:23)
Rotherhams largest Church is known as the Rotherham Minster and dominates the Centre of this South Yorkshire Town. Until recently this Church, which is as large as many Cathedrals, was known as All Saints Parish Church. This change in name was to reflect its importance as a Church in the region and also marked the culmination of a major restoration project. The Town of Rotherham grew up along [more...]

The Brecon Hotel in Rotherham (04.07.2007 10:40)
The Brecon Hotel in Rotherham was the choice of venue for a work's function. We had left it a little late to get in any of our preferred venues and found that the Brecon was just about the only place that could accommodate our part of around 40 people. This was my first visit to this Hotel, although since it is located on one of the main routes just outside of Rotherham it is a place that I [more...]
