Canklow Woods date from around 1600 and are one of the largest remaining areas of ancient woodland in the region. They are an important haven for wildlife and they are also of national importance for archaeology as it was the site of a Bronze Age settlement that was occupied from around 1000BC. These woods were owned by the Duke of Norfolks estate until 2000 when they passed over to the care of Rotherham Borough Council. |
