Compiled for you: The facts!Details Firsby Reservoirs
| Description: |
Firsby Reservoirs are a nature reserve that consist of two separate reservoirs. They are located approximately 4 miles (7 Kilometres) to the north east of Rotherham town centre. Created between 1874-80 they were constructed to provide a fresh supply of drinking water for Rotherham and the surrounding area. By 1974 pollution had made the two reservoirs no longer viable as a source for drinking water and they became redundant. In 1980 Yorkshire Water sold the reservoirs to Rotherham Borough Council who created a local nature reserve that we find today. Access to the area is free and there is a small car park located close to the western reservoir. |
