The performing art complex was donated to the university by the former mayor of Cape Town Dr W. Duncan Baxter and established in 1977. It has won many awards for its productions since and is the second largest theatre in Cape Town.
The complex comprises of three separate venues, the Main Theatre with 666 seats, the Concert Hall offers seating for 638 and features a Von Beckerath organ and the Golden Arrow Studio Theatre has capacities for 172.
On the programme you can find a mix of drama, comedy, classical, popular and jazz music, dance and performing arts related activities and workshops for children.
Also on the premises is a restaurant with in and outdoor seating and a bar. Both are open from Monday to Saturday from 9am until late and offer event catering.
