Darwin Porter says that the hotel De Russie - named because it was previously popular with Russian dignitaries - has, since it opened in 2000 attracted praise due to "its opulent furnishings and choice location". The public areas are described as "glossy and contemporary". Special mention is made of the bedrooms of which there are two styles - a small number are tradtionally decorated and furnished, the remaining 70% have a more minimalist theme and "a stark, striking design". All rooms include "every conceivable high-tech amenity". Most of the rooms have views "over a verdant garden". Of the hotel bar Porter says "nothing is nicer on a summer evening than sipping a cocktail in the Stravinskij bar". The staff also attract praise - "the multilingual staff works hard to make your stay comfortable".
