[jonadabi, 07/11/2011] We only stayed a couple of nights in Nice and choose the hotel due to the fact that the room rates are comparatively low (in this really expensive city). Although the rooms seem a little run down they are perfectly clean and comfortable. The bathroom was tiny but did serve its purpose so we were happy with it. The staff whether at reception or in the breakfast area (very good breakfast) was always friendly and helpful. We did not mind the hotel's situation a bit away from the beach and old town. We actually enjoyed the farmers market and all those local shops and restaurants in this area.
[JerryB, 24/10/2011] A perfect spot to relax and enjoy Provencal life, no idea why people moan about the prices, yes I am sure a pint of beer costs less elsewhere but look at the surroundings, a great old style cafe in a beautiful village....
[magdadh, 15/10/2011] The old Avignon sits its on the banks of the Rhone, surrounded by three miles of (restored) medieval ramparts. The whole of the old town is a delight to simply walk about, climbing onto the walls and wandering among the charming streets and alleyways of which many date to Avignon's medieval heyday, but the ramparts are by far the best. You can walk large stretches of the ramparts, with fabulous views into the old city and (on the river side especially) outside, but they are even better to look at then to look from. Avignon's ramparts are simply picture-perfect storybook fortifications, with ro

[magdadh, 15/10/2011] The Avignon bridge, or St Benezet's bridge was built in the 12th century to connect Avignon with Villeneuve-les-Avignon. It was the only bridge on the Rhone south of Lyon and the only one between the royal France and the papal Comtat Venaissin, thus a grand fortified gatehouse that leads directly into the ramparts at the Avignon end. The bridge suffered frequent damage from floods and wind, to eventually collapse by late 17th century. Only four of the original twenty-two arches remain, now a museum with an entry charge.
The ruin of the bridge is certainly a picturesque one, the arches jutti

[magdadh, 15/10/2011] The medieval quarter of Avignon is dominated by the gigantic Palais des Papes, the Popes' Palace. It's the largest Gothic palace in the world, inhuman in the scale of its ten-foot thick walls and vast chambers. The Place du Palais is also a vast, stone-covered, empty, windy space (or maybe it only appeared windy because Mistral was blowing on the day of our visit) over which the Palais casts its opressive shadow. Behind the Palais, the pretty 19th century Jardins de Doms stretch across the most ancient part of the city, now criss-crossed with walking paths and decorated with fountains and stat

[magdadh, 15/10/2011] France has several chains of budget motel-type hotels, of which the largest is the Accor-branded Etap. Another common chain is B and B hotels which operate on a similar principle but tend to be a bit more expensive. Despite the suggestion of the name, the breakfast is options and charged extra. We paid 56 Euro for a night in a four-bed room.
We stayed in a B and B hotel in Avignon, or strictly speaking in the suburban area of Le Pontet. Both B&Bs (we stayed in Avignon 1, as there are actually two very near each other) is located in an out-of-town estate full of other cheap hotel chains (Etap,

Its characteristic white-topped pyramid (bare stone, not snow) can be seen from far away and as it's the highest mountain in the area it has been nicknamed the Giant of Provence.
We decide to drive up on the afternoon after we visit the ochre quarries in Rustrel, one of the draws being the fact that the temperature at the top is often many degrees lower than in the valleys and we had a hot half-day's walking among the ochres.

[magdadh, 14/10/2011] We stayed in many an Etap hotel in France (motel chain equivalent to the UK Travelodge and by far the cheapest option for a family of four). The one in the Provencal town of Apt, in the Luberon hills, was one of the nicest ones.
Situated about a mile from the town centre it had a secure car park, a very pleasant courtyard with metal tables and chairs and a comfortable rooms of the Etap's new design where the old purple-and-blue colour scheme and severe and square iron bunk beds have been replaced by more rounded shapes with at least illusion of some wood and a cream and pale green colours wh

[magdadh, 14/10/2011] Ochres are naturally found earth pigments, similar to umbers and siennas: clays that have been coloured by metal oxides (iron oxides in ochres) and vary in hue from golden to red. Ochres are the archetypal “earth colours, and the painters' yellow ochre refers to a brownish yellow, while red ochre is an earthy red. Ochres have been used since the dawn of humanity, being among the earliest means of artistic expression (the Lascaux and Altamira cave paintings used ochres) and body adornment (and are still used in many traditional tribal societies from Africa to Australia).

[pwilliam, 29/08/2011] The hotel suited us well as we travelled on a budget and did not want to spent much on accommodation. Despite the little money we paid the room and private bathroom were perfectly clean and in good condition. The breakfast buffet offered a wide choice of bread and cereals. Very helpful and professional staff at the front desk. The hotel was situated near the main train station so that we could easily catch an early train towards Italy. We would book the hotel again and recommend it to all those who look for a decent but cheap accommodation.
[BlueStar, 01/07/2011] Water Sports Holiday, Done everything from sailing to bananna boat rides.. was great experience. Done a camping trip friends. Beach was really nice.
[joveneli, 27/06/2011] Cézanne Hôtel & Spa in Cannes - France is luxury hotel with all facilities and services. Central location and easy access to all in town. My room was modern, very clean, large, comfortable and with a stunning view. Excellent and profesional staff. The hotel lobby was very beautiful and expansive. The quality food was very good. Excellent beach. The hotel is perfect and relaxing. Overall, everything was more of good. I would definately visit this luxury hotel again.
[Trubshaw, 18/06/2011] We meant to stay a couple of nights - but due to having my wallet stolen at the train station and not having my driving licence to hire a car we ended up stayin the week!
The hotel is very clean & comfortable, quiet, with excellent air conditioning throughout the main rooms & bedrooms.
The Breakfast is good for the money with the ability to squeeze your own fresh orange juice.
The staff right from the front desk to the waitresses & cleaners simply cannot be faulted.
It's a leisurely stroll into the town - but don't miss out Rue Bonaparte - Out of the front door & turn left - some excellen

We really enjoy the shopping in Cannes and we went with the train to monaco and nice, and with the boat to St Tropez. Cannes is just in the middle of everything on the French riviera! The reception desk help us a lot with the train and boat schedule

[RosemarieZiro, 06/02/2011] We never miss going to this restaurant. Have been doing so for many years. Never disappointed. The pasta with seafood is excellent as is everything else. Comfortable surroundings with helpful staff. Outdoor or indoor dining. We prefer indoors. Nick, one of the servers, has always remembered our faces and has made us feel comfortable and at home. Not to be missed!! Fairly priced and worth every euro.
[sicocos, 03/01/2011] although the hotel is only a single star, but the service is quite good and enjoyable for anyone who stayed at this hotel.
[darja, 02/11/2010] We decided to stay in this charming hotel 3 days out of our 13 days Provence Tour, which turned out to be the excellent choice. In the morning everything smells on fresh baked croissants and the garden is beautiful in the morning as well as during the dinner. Room and bathroom were very clean and far better than you expect for 2 hotel (especially in France). The overall ambience is 'feels like home'. Good luck Claude & Nick.
