Domaine de Châteauvieux - Satigny, Switzerland - May, 2008
Comfortable room, wonderful restaurant (29.05.2008 15:01)
We first visited this hotel about ten years ago. Then it was simple and rustic. As the legend of M. Chevrier's cooking grows around the world, so has he invested in the rooms and today, although not quite luxurious, they are very comfortable indeed. It is located in Peney-Dessus, a tiny village just ten minutes drive from Geneva Airport so a good alternative to staying in Geneva itself. The food [more...]

Courtyard by Marriott Düsseldorf-Hafen - Dusseldorf, Germany - April, 2008
Well-run, modern business hotel in good location (05.05.2008 10:20)
The Courtyard is not a top of the range Marriott. However, this hotel was only recently built and the combination of very modern, new facilities and a really excellent staff make it a good location for those on a business trip who are seeking convenience rarther than luxury. [more...]

comfortable business hotel in central location (27.04.2008 07:44)
This was a comfortable hotel with a friendly and professional staff. The bedroom was a bit drab but the bathroom was modern and functional. Room service food was prompt and good. [more...]
  • Le Meridien Piccadilly

Le Meridien Piccadilly - London, United Kingdom - April, 2008
this hotel needs renovation urgently (13.04.2008 20:34)
This hotel should close down whilst it undergoes a complete renovation. It is simply not up to the demands of the new century. Travellers' tastes and expectations have evolved since 1985 and the Starwood chain should realize that. This is at best a three star hotel masquerading as a five star. I used to stay at the rather good le Meridien in Boston (now the Langham) so was expecting something a [more...]
  • Romantik Schweizerhof
    90 out of 100
Romantik Schweizerhof - Grindelwald, Switzerland - March, 2008
    Charming traditional hostelry (31.03.2008 18:25)
I had a great time here and would return. Much, much nicer than its rival the Belvedere, a plateglass monstrosity that looks like a politbureau building which pollutes the Grindelwald skyline (I stayed there in the nineties and did not like it). One word of caution: there seems to be a lot of building work going on behind the hotel (chalets and a huge apartment block) - not sure how much noise [more...]
  • Meliá Berlin

Meliá Berlin - Berlin, Germany - March, 2008
well located business hotel (09.03.2008 18:30)
I was impressed. This was not a luxury hotel nor one for a romantic weekend. But for a couple of days on business, it was really great. They need to work on free wireless internet however. It was good value for money. Because it is a new building, everything was spick and span. Recommended. [more...]

Best Western du Mont-Blanc Au Lac - Morges, Switzerland - February, 2008
    charming lakeside inn (24.02.2008 14:42)
If you are looking for a nice hotel on Lake Geneva and do not want to pay the stratospheric prices of Geneva and Lausanne, this is a good place to go. It is in a stunning location and is well run and comfortable. I recommend it. Two practical suggestions for the owners: get wi-fi for all the rooms and turn off the piped music. [more...]
  • Calcot Manor

Calcot Manor - Canterbury, United Kingdom - January, 2008
Comfortable country house hotel (24.01.2008 11:23)
Calcot Manor worked very well for a large, wedding function. I am sure that it is good to for business away days and the like. I do not think I would go there for pure leisure "get away" as it is not very soothing. A huge car park suggests that the individual traveller is not its core market. It is a friendly place and perfectly comfortable; but I did not get a "wow" factor from my visit. [more...]
  • Bel-Air

Bel-Air - Los Angeles, United States of America - January, 2008
Exquisite, traditional hotel in lovely location (15.01.2008 18:39)
I would certainly return. This is a five star hotel at five star prices apparently, according to one staff member, owned by the Sultan of Brunei (he who owns the Dorchester). The rooms vary in quality and we were lucky to get one of the very nicest. I imagine that some of them can be quite noisy. Also, the pool area is quite small and I imagine can be quite crowded at peak times. In January (and [more...]
