[more]The Freedom Park is situated on Salvokop hill on the outskirts of Pretoria. This post-colonial monument is devoted to humanity, freedom and heritage, representing the democracy of South Africa. The first phase of construction was finished in 2004 and the second should be done in 2010.
The park consists of a number of symbolic elements. The Isivivane is the resting place for the spirits of heroes and heroines. The Sikhumbuto reminds visitors about the various conflicts. The Moshate is a presidential and diplomatic hospitality suite for special occasions. The Mveledzo is a spiral path, connecting all the elements of the park together. The Wall of Names includes the names of those who died during eight historic conflicts. The Gallery of Leaders exhibits local, continental and international leaders who contributed to freedom and humanity. Families can relax and enjoy the view of the city in the Uitspanplek.
The Freedom Park also offers daily guided tours, which can be booked on their web site.
